Dispute over Money Sent from Abroad: Wife Allegedly Killed in Gazipur, Husband Detained
A woman named Hasna Akter (20) has allegedly been killed in Pubail, Gazipur city, following a dispute over accounts of money sent home while her husband was abroad. Local people detained the accused, Rafiqul Islam (28), and handed him over to the police.
The killing reportedly took place on Sunday (18 October) afternoon near the Mawrartek railway line in the Shukundirbag area of Hyderabad.
The accused Rafiqul is the son of the late Siraj Mandal of Bartrakather Danga village under Manda police station in Naogaon district. The deceased Hasna Akter was his wife.
Police and local people said Hasna Akter and Rafiqul Islam were married about four years ago. Rafiqul had recently returned home from abroad.
A rift developed between the husband and wife over the accounts of the money sent while he was abroad. At one stage, their dispute intensified.
Following that dispute, on Sunday afternoon Rafiqul allegedly took Hasna from their rented home in the Khailkur area under Gacha police station in Gazipur city to the Hyderabad area of Pubail. There, at a secluded spot near the Mawrartek railway line, she was allegedly stabbed in the throat and various parts of her body.
Hearing Hasna's screams, people nearby rushed in. They rescued her in a critically injured condition and detained Rafiqul. Police later arrived at the scene and took the detained Rafiqul into custody.
Hasna was taken in critical condition to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Atikur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pubail police station, said that because the incident occurred near the boundary of the railway line, the body and the detained person were handed over to the relevant railway (GRP) police for further legal proceedings.
The OC added that the real cause of the killing and the details of the incident will be confirmed through investigation. After the handover, the full picture of the incident will now emerge from the railway police investigation.
