UNO's driver detained with three women after taking government car to rented house in Shariatpur

In Shariatpur, local residents detained a driver named Badsha Akon along with three women after he took the government car of the Damudya Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to a rented house. Police later went to the scene and took all four to the police station.

The incident took place on Sunday (18 October) at noon at a rented house in the Pakar Matha area of Shariatpur municipality. Police said some drug paraphernalia was recovered from the house.

According to local residents, Damudya UNO Salauddin Ayubi came to Shariatpur on Sunday to attend a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner's office. After dropping him there, driver Badsha Akon took the government car to the rented house in Pakar Matha.

Three women lived in that house as tenants. When locals grew suspicious about Badsha's regular visits there, they went to the house and detained Badsha and the three women. Police were informed and took the four to the station.

The house caretaker claimed Badsha had helped the three women rent the house by introducing them as his cousins. Since then, he had been seen visiting the house regularly.

Locals alleged that since the three women rented the house last month, various men had been visiting it. They said Badsha, too, had been seen going there at different times.

One of the detained women, however, made a different claim. She said Badsha was her brother and visited in that capacity. She alleged that several locals entered the house and demanded money from them, and when they refused, planted drug paraphernalia inside and called the police.

Badsha Akon himself rejected the claim that the women were his relatives. He said he had known them beforehand and that they had long been asking him to arrange a house for them.

According to Badsha, on Sunday he took the opportunity of the Shariatpur trip to go to that house after dropping off the UNO. After he arrived, several people knocked on the door and, once it was opened, alleged that immoral activities were going on there. He said he knew nothing about that.

Abdus Shukur, a sub-inspector of Palong Model Police Station, said police went to the scene after receiving reports that three women and a man were involved in immoral activities there and that drugs were regularly used. Four people were detained along with some drug paraphernalia and taken to the station.

He added that legal action against the detainees would be taken after discussion with senior officials.

Damudya UNO Salauddin Ayubi said that after learning of the matter he informed the Deputy Commissioner. A process to take legal action against the driver is under way, and his office will also take necessary measures, he said.
