Moscow has described the possibility of new strikes on Iran as extremely worrying. Russia has also warned the United States against launching fresh attacks on Iran.

On Monday (2 November), Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow hopes the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will return to normal quickly.

Zakharova said: “The tragic experience of recent months has proved that military operations bringing death and destruction to Iran have failed to break the resolve of its people to defend their sovereignty and independence. Those who are threatening new strikes today should take this into account.”

She added: “We hope the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will return to normal quickly. In this regard, the legitimate interests of the countries adjoining the strait, and of the countries interested in the unimpeded and safe use of this waterway — which is extremely important for the world economy — must be taken into consideration.”

Zakharova said: “This applies fully to Iran as well, because the country faces an illegal US naval blockade.”

The spokeswoman also said it is extremely important to step up diplomatic efforts and to cooperate with mediators in the peace process.

Zakharova said Moscow is ready to help find a mutually acceptable solution and to contribute to implementing it afterwards.
