A housewife, Mousumi Khatun (36), and her two-year-old son Abdur Rahman were killed after being thrown from a motorcycle hit by a pickup in Manirampur upazila of Jashore. The accident happened on Sunday evening at Galda Mathpara on the Rajganj-Pulerhat road in the upazila.

Mousumi Khatun's husband, the motorcycle rider Faruk Hossain (40), was seriously injured in the accident. Their home is in Manikganj of Hanuar village in Rajganj, it was learned.

Local veterinary doctor Billah Hossain, citing relatives, said Faruk Hossain was returning home from Jashore by motorcycle with his wife and son in the afternoon after taking the boy to a doctor. Mousumi Khatun was sitting behind, holding the child in her lap.

Billah Hossain said that while overtaking a trolley at Galda Mathpara, a speeding pickup hit the motorcycle and fled. Faruk Hossain, his wife and their son were thrown off the motorcycle and seriously injured.

Abdul Aziz, a schoolteacher from nearby Chandipur village, said he was travelling by easybike from Rajganj Bazar to Jashore after Maghrib prayers. Just after their bike passed Dondaria Mor, he saw the seriously injured husband and wife and the child in her lap who had fallen from the motorcycle.

Abdul Aziz said they rescued the injured and took them in their own easybike to Pulerhat Ad-Din Hospital, where doctors declared the mother and son dead.

Manirampur police station officer-in-charge Abu Saeed said the police had no knowledge of the mother and son's deaths in the accident.
