Another Hotel Fire in Cox’s Bazar: 300 Tourists Shelter on Beach as Sea Princess Catches Fire
Another hotel fire has broken out in Cox's Bazar. On Friday afternoon, fire erupted at the star hotel The Sea Princess at Sugandha Point in the town, originating from a generator short circuit in the parking area on the hotel's ground floor.
After the fire broke out, around 300 tourists staying at the hotel quickly took shelter on the nearby beach. Although panic spread, moving out quickly made it possible to avert a major disaster.
Through the combined efforts of the Fire Service and the hotel authorities, the fire was brought under control within about half an hour. No one was reported killed or injured in the incident.
This fire came just seven days after a blaze at the Tup Tup Resort on Marine Drive killed 10 people. Two hotel and resort fires in succession have raised fresh questions about fire safety in Cox's Bazar's tourist area.
Tourist crowds in Cox's Bazar have grown during the Puja holidays. Although the fire at a star hotel at such a time created panic among guests, those concerned expressed relief that there were no casualties.
Initial information indicates the fire started from a generator short circuit. After repeated fire incidents, demands are growing stronger to verify the safety of generators, electrical connections and emergency exits in hotels.
The full picture of the cause of the fire and the damage will be known from the Fire Service after investigation. For now, the hotel's situation is under control and no casualties have been reported.
During the tourist season, ensuring fire safety in Cox's Bazar's hotel-motel zone has now become the most urgent issue, so that tourists who come to spend their holidays face no concern over safety.
