Red Crescent Holds Free Medical Camp in Sylhet City, Distributes Free Medicine
The Red Crescent has organised a free medical camp in Sylhet city, where those who came for treatment also received free medicine, it has been learned.
The camp was arranged to take free medical care to ordinary people in the city. Alongside doctors' advice, patients benefited from receiving the medicines they needed without charge.
Free medical camps generally provide basic check-ups, doctors' consultations and essential medicines, and the Sylhet event followed that same pattern of service.
The Red Crescent has long carried out humanitarian work in different parts of the country. Alongside disaster relief, delivering healthcare is a regular part of the organisation's work.
Initiatives of this kind in Sylhet city particularly benefit low-income people, for whom paying doctors' fees and the cost of medicine regularly can be difficult.
Those who received care expressed satisfaction at getting free medicine. Coming for treatment and not having to go separately to a pharmacy for medicine saved them both time and money.
Local health camps of this kind also play a role in identifying illness. People often do not see a doctor for minor symptoms; when free care is available at a camp, they are encouraged to get checked.
Similar camps are held from time to time in the other districts of Sylhet Division — Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sunamganj. This event in the city is part of that continuing effort.
The organisers expressed hope that such humanitarian service activities will continue in future, so that more people can benefit from free treatment and medicine.
The turnout of people seeking care itself shows how strong the demand for free medical services is in the city. Holding such camps at regular intervals would play a positive role in protecting public health, those concerned believe.
