Dengue claims 5 more lives in a day, with 1,512 new patients admitted to hospital

Staff Reporter

Deaths and infections from dengue continue to rise in the country. Five more people have died of dengue in a single day. During the same period, 1,512 new patients were admitted to hospital.

The picture of more than fifteen hundred patients being admitted to hospital in one day shows that the dengue situation is still not under control. This daily pressure of admissions is putting an extra burden on hospitals.

The death toll is rising anew every day. The news of five more deaths in the latest single day has deepened that concern further. The risk is highest for those patients whose condition becomes complicated.

The figure of 1,512 hospital admissions is the count for a single day. In other words, that many people rushed to hospital with dengue symptoms for treatment in just one day. This shows that the spread of the mosquito-borne disease is still at a wide level.

The number of infections rises every year during the dengue season, but this time the consistently high daily rate of deaths and admissions has created panic among the public. There is discussion among those involved in treatment that hospitals are struggling to handle the pressure of patients.

Doctors repeatedly say it is essential not to neglect a fever and to get tested and treated quickly. In particular, they advise going to hospital without delay if the platelet count falls or signs of dehydration appear in the body.

Mosquito control is the main weapon in preventing dengue. Simple precautions — not letting water accumulate around homes, regularly cleaning water collected in flower tubs, on roofs and on balconies, and using mosquito nets day and night — can reduce infections.

Questions are also being raised repeatedly about the effectiveness of mosquito control activities by the city corporations and local administration. Given the rate at which infections are rising, it is difficult to manage the situation through hospital treatment alone — demands are growing stronger to emphasise mosquito control at the field level.

Those involved in public health believe this trend of infections cannot be stopped unless the breeding grounds of the Aedes mosquito are destroyed. Both public awareness and coordinated operations by the authorities have now become urgent.

This is the most worrying time for families. Many are having to rush to hospital with relatives suffering from fever. In some cases, that struggle is ending with the tragic news of a death.

All in all, this count of five deaths and 1,512 new admissions in a single day is yet another reminder that dengue is now one of the country's biggest public health crises. All eyes are now on whether the infection rate comes down in the coming days.
