Bangladesh lose four wickets inside the powerplay, batting collapse puts the team under pressure

Staff Reporter • Reading time: 2 min

Bangladesh have fallen into deep trouble right at the start of their innings. The team lost four wickets inside the powerplay and is now under severe pressure, Bangla Tribune reported.

Bangladesh chose to bat first at the start of the match. There had been discussion before the match about who would make the playing eleven, and the team took the field with that eleven.

But the start with the bat went nowhere near to plan. Wickets began to fall one after another early in the innings, and four batters were back in the pavilion before the powerplay had even ended.

In T20 and limited-overs cricket, scoring quickly in the powerplay while also keeping wickets intact is the most important job. Losing four wickets in that phase means the very foundation of the innings has been shaken.

After this early blow, the pressure on the middle order has multiplied. The remaining batters now not only have to score runs, they first have to carry the innings forward so that wickets remain in hand at the death.

Details such as which batter was dismissed for how many runs, which bowlers took the wickets, and what the team score currently is have not yet been available in the published report. With the match in progress, the full scorecard will have to wait.

In previous matches too, there were questions over the consistency of Bangladesh's top order. Losing quick wickets repeatedly in the powerplay looks like the return of that same old problem.

The opposition bowlers have made full use of this early opening and are now keeping Bangladesh completely under pressure. Settling at the crease is the biggest challenge now for the new batters.

Supporters' eyes are now on the middle order — one partnership could change the picture of the match, while more quick wickets would make it hard to post even a fighting total.

Further updates from the match, the full score and the result will be published on Barlekha Today once available. For now, the question is how far Bangladesh can recover from the powerplay collapse.
