Trump blames the Iran war for the midterm setbacks, saying he would 'do it again'
President Donald Trump said the war in Iran likely contributed to Republican setbacks in the midterm elections, as higher gasoline prices affected voters.
Despite the political fallout, Trump stayed defiant, telling reporters that regarding Iran he would 'do it again'.
The election result also drew a reaction in Tehran. A giant banner depicting President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was burnt at a rally in Tehran, after the Republican Party's major midterm elections loss.
The result had also raised questions about the Supreme Court's future, but conservative Justice Samuel Alito will not retire immediately. He has told friends he does not plan to step down before the end of the court's term, even as Democrats are set to seize the Senate in January.
A Republican (G.O.P.) group has also warned about women's representation in the party, saying the party faces a 'crisis-level' loss of elected women.
Democrats' sweep of Congress has further whittled the already small ranks of Republican women, according to that assessment.
