Denied the Nobel, Trump hurls profanity at Norway and says he does not want its immigrants

US President Donald Trump has stepped up his attacks on Norway after the Nobel Committee did not give him the Peace Prize. On Sunday he attacked the country using a profane phrase and said Norwegian immigrants will not be welcomed in the United States. The Nobel Committee is based in Norway's capital, Oslo.
Trump made the remarks at a political rally in Port Huron, Michigan, ahead of next week's midterm elections. Blaming immigration for France's recent unrest, Trump said he would welcome immigrants from some countries, but not from Norway—because he did not get the Nobel Prize, he does not want anyone from Norway.
Trump said Norway has actually become a 'shithouse' country. He has previously used the same word for Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.
There is, however, no indication that the Trump administration is adopting any new official policy on Norwegian immigrants.
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Norway is one of the highest-income countries by GDP per capita. In the first half of 2026, Norway's sovereign wealth fund made a record profit of 1.75 trillion Norwegian kroner, or $184.3 billion.
Norway's foreign ministry and a representative of the Norwegian Nobel Committee did not immediately respond to requests for comment, as it was outside office hours. Earlier this month, Trump had called not giving him the Nobel Peace Prize an indelible stain on Norway.
