Police have arrested Shipon Mia, 23, in Cumilla's Muradnagar on allegations of killing his uncle Masud Mia. The two were in dispute over a romantic relationship with the same woman, according to police, and Shipon admitted responsibility during preliminary questioning.

He was arrested at around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday (October 25) in a raid in the Kuti Bhanganagar area of Brahmanbaria's Kasba police station area. Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfar Rahman confirmed the arrest at night.

Masud Mia, 45, was the son of the late Hasan Ali of Korerpar Madhyapara village in Akubpur Union under Bangra Bazar police station in Muradnagar upazila. He was a scrap dealer by profession. Shipon is the son of Anis Mia of Kurbanpur village in the same upazila.

Police and local sources said Masud Mia was seriously wounded with a sharp weapon at around 10 p.m. on Saturday (October 24) on a dirt road east of Israil's house in Korerpar village. He died at the scene from heavy bleeding, and Shipon fled after the incident.

Police and local sources also said Masud Mia had entered a romantic relationship with a widowed woman from the same upazila about three years ago. Shipon later also developed a relationship with the same woman, and a dispute arose between uncle and nephew over it.

Members of the victim's family claimed Shipon took the woman to his home on October 20. Masud Mia then went to his sister's house to seek arbitration over the matter, where an argument and scuffle took place. The family believe Masud was killed in a planned attack stemming from that dispute.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicates Shipon lured Masud to a secluded place that night and struck him repeatedly with a sharp weapon. When nearby people rushed forward after hearing his screams, Shipon fled.

Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfar Rahman said Shipon's location was identified through secret information and technology, after which the raid was carried out in Kasba's Kuti Bhanganagar area. In preliminary questioning, he said, Shipon admitted carrying out the killing over the dispute about the relationship with the same woman, and legal action is being taken against him.
