Jashore Swechchhasebak Dal Ward President Expelled Over Indiscipline and Drug Allegations

Staff Reporter

Mahuddin Nahid, president of the Ward No. 8 Swechchhasebak Dal in Narendrapur Union of Jashore Sadar Upazila, has been expelled on allegations of anti-disciplinary activities. The decision was announced through a press release from the party.

The expulsion was announced on Saturday in a press release signed by Habibullah Biswas, joint convener of the Narendrapur Union Swechchhasebak Dal. The release made the local-level decision formally public.

Imamul Islam Tuhin, convener of the union Swechchhasebak Dal, said Nahid was expelled after evidence was found of drug involvement and anti-disciplinary activities. The leadership's statement made the two grounds clear — drug involvement and breach of discipline.

Recently, a video said to show Nahid taking drugs spread on social media. After the video circulated, the matter drew local discussion and also came to the party's attention, according to this report.

After that, allegations were raised against him and his associates of attacking a house near Gopalpur Gate, assaulting a woman and looting. Those allegations made the backdrop to the expulsion more serious, although they remain at the allegation stage.

Milon Molla, in-charge of the Narendrapur police outpost, said the video had come to the police's attention. He said the matter would be investigated and legal action taken accordingly. Alongside the party decision, a police investigation is therefore now in focus.

Expulsion is an organisational party decision; through it Nahid loses the ward president post and his party identity. What legal process follows on the allegations of house attack, assault and looting will depend on the police investigation.

Nahid's own statement was not available in this report. His position on the allegations would complete the picture of this incident. For now, statements from the party and the police form the basis of this report.

In local politics, expulsions of this kind are usually taken to protect the party's image, especially when evidence such as a video spreads on social media. In Narendrapur's case too, the sequence suggests the decision came after the video circulated.

The next step to watch is the outcome of the police investigation and the legal action that follows. Who is given responsibility for the vacant ward-level post will also matter for the local organisation.
