Bangladeshi Researcher Rabiul Alam Wins Prestigious University of Queensland Prize for Comparative Education Research in Australia
Bangladeshi PhD researcher Md Rabiul Alam has won the prestigious 'NV Varghese Prize for Comparative Education 2026' at the University of Queensland (UQ) in Australia.
The university's School of Education gave him the award in recognition of the originality of his research, his academic excellence and his contribution to the field of comparative education.
The winner of this competitive research prize is chosen considering the evaluation and recommendation of a selection committee.
The quality of the research, its originality and its relevance to comparative education were the main criteria in choosing the winner. It was on that assessment that Rabiul Alam's work earned recognition.
The central subject of Rabiul Alam's research is multilingual communication, language management and language sustainability in a spiritual tourism context in the Global South.
In his research he has analysed communication and participation among people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and the role of social and religious values in language management.
His research offers a new perspective on understanding the relationship between language, culture and inclusive participation beyond the traditional classroom as well.
In a congratulatory message on the award, Professor Robin Shields, head of UQ's School of Education, described Rabiul Alam's research on multilingual communication at international religious gatherings as 'original and insightful'.
Such recognition for Bangladeshi researchers at leading universities abroad is encouraging for the country's higher education and research. For young researchers working on language and education, Rabiul Alam's achievement stands as a notable example.
How language connects people in contexts such as spiritual tourism, and how the sustainability of that language can be protected — Rabiul Alam's research has sought to answer those questions.
It is the contribution of this research to the field of comparative education that brought him a competitive honour such as the NV Varghese Prize.
The success of this Bangladeshi researcher is also an inspiration for other Bangladeshi students engaged in study and research abroad.
