684 arrested in 24 hours in DMP raids across Dhaka, 44 cases filed
In the last 24 hours, 684 people have been arrested in regular raids by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) across the capital. A total of 44 cases were filed during the same period.
The raids were carried out on Friday (23 October) in various police station areas of the capital, with arrests made alongside the recovery of evidence and narcotics.
Mirpur Division recorded the highest number of arrests, with 206 people detained. Tejgaon Division followed with 110 arrests, Wari Division with 87, and Motijheel and Gulshan divisions with 78 each.
In addition, 47 people were arrested in Lalbagh Division, 38 in Ramna Division, 32 in Uttara Division, 4 by the SRU Division and 4 by the Detective Branch (DB).
During the operations, police recovered 2,508 yaba pills, 23 kilograms of cannabis and 498 grams of heroin. Alongside the drugs, 18 mobile phones and 79 SIM cards were also seized.
The raids further recovered one motorcycle, one auto-rickshaw with four batteries and Tk 32,530 in cash. Police also seized 104 gambling cards, eight notebooks and a cutter along with cannabis-filled smoking pipes.
Further legal action against those arrested is under process, the DMP said.
The DMP has been running such operations continuously to keep the capital's law and order situation under control. In the previous day's operation too, hundreds were arrested across the capital — with Mirpur Division again recording the most arrests.
The number of arrests in the latest operation has risen further compared with the previous day. With 684 arrests and 44 cases in 24 hours, the figures paint a picture of intensified police activity in the capital.
Police say operations against those involved in drugs, gambling and other criminal activities will continue. Once legal procedures are completed, the arrested individuals will be sent to court.
