Robin Hits Another NCL Century, First Batter to Reach 500 Runs This Season
Young Mymensingh Division opener Mahfizul Islam Robin has kept up his superb batting form in the National Cricket League (NCL).
On Saturday, in the first innings of the tournament's fourth round against Chittagong, he struck a fine century. With that hundred, the in-form batter crossed the personal milestone of 500 runs in the current season.
His consistency at the crease since the start of the season has brought him back into the spotlight of domestic cricket.
Robin looked hungry for runs from the very beginning of the tournament. In six innings across the first three rounds, he had collected 400 runs.
In the fourth round he lifted his rhythm further and brought up the coveted century in the very first innings.
Holding his side together at an important moment with a responsible innings, he became the first batter of the tournament to enter the 500-run club.
Such a continuous run of scores in longer-version cricket has also become a source of relief for the national team selectors.
Expressing satisfaction with his performance, chief selector Habibul Bashar Sumon said recently that Robin is in very good rhythm and scoring runs regularly.
The chief selector added that Robin had already been on the selectors' radar and within the board's designated structure, and that the season has begun brilliantly for him.
Habibul Bashar also expressed hope that the ongoing NCL and the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) to follow would produce good players for the future.
It remains to be seen whether Robin can maintain this consistency for the rest of the season and knock loudly on the national team's door.
