Cocktail Explosion in Front of Old Ramna Police Station in Dhaka, Attackers Flee on Motorcycle
A cocktail bomb exploded on the road in front of the old Ramna police station in the capital. At around 7:40pm on Friday, a group of miscreants arrived on a motorcycle, suddenly set off the explosion and quickly fled the scene.
The explosion in front of the police station at a busy evening hour spread panic in the area. At the sound of the blast, pedestrians and people nearby ran for safety.
Inspector Abdul Al Mohsin, duty officer of Ramna Model Police Station, confirmed the incident. He said the sudden attack took place after 7:30pm.
According to police, the miscreants came to the scene on a motorcycle. They fled immediately after setting off the cocktail, so no one could be detained from the spot.
Law enforcement agencies are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to quickly identify and arrest those involved. Analysis of the footage is under way to establish the attackers' identities and their escape route, it has been learned.
Police have also said necessary legal steps are being taken. Following the incident, the presence of law enforcement in the area has been increased.
Such an attack in the heart of the capital, in front of a police station, has raised fresh questions about security arrangements. The station area usually sees movement of people in the evening; many see the explosion at that time as a deliberate attempt to spread panic.
The motive behind the incident is not yet clear. Police have indicated that who carried out the blast and why will emerge through investigation.
CCTV footage is now the main hope of the investigation. If the motorcycle and its riders can be identified from cameras on nearby roads and buildings, progress may be made in arresting the attackers.
Isolated cocktail explosions have occurred in different parts of the capital before as well. Each time, law enforcement agencies have worked to identify those involved. That process has begun in this case too.
For now, the situation in the area is under control. However, anxiety remains among local residents and pedestrians after an explosion in front of the police station.
All eyes are now on the investigation — ending this panic depends on whether the attackers can be identified through CCTV analysis and arrested quickly. Further progress is expected to be announced by police.
