Brook Breaks Gill's Record for the Fastest Double Century in ODI Cricket

Staff Reporter

Brook has set a new record for the fastest double century in one-day international cricket. Breaking the previous record held by India's Shubman Gill, he is now the batter to have reached an ODI double hundred in the fewest balls.

A double century in ODI cricket is itself a rare feat. To score two hundred runs in a fifty-over match, a batter must not only play a long innings but maintain an attacking rhythm from start to finish. Doing that feat faster than anyone before has now given Brook's innings a special place in the record books.

The previous record belonged to Shubman Gill. The Indian opener's fastest double century had been regarded as the benchmark of pace and aggression in one-day cricket. Brook has now raised that benchmark even higher.

Aggressive batting in modern ODI cricket has changed the very definition of records. Scores that were once a team's dream have now come within the range of an individual innings. Brook's double century is further proof of that changing era.

A fastest double century means the run rate never dropped throughout the innings. Sustaining a flow of boundaries, keeping the strike and balancing risk while preserving wickets—only when everything comes together is such an innings possible.

The record will remain one of the biggest milestones of Brook's career. It is a major statement on his way to establishing himself as a batter for big matches and big innings in limited-overs cricket.

For cricket fans, an innings like this has a special appeal. The moment the record fell, the excitement in the stands and the advance towards history with every boundary will make the match a memorable one.

Although Gill's record has been broken, this contest of records will not stop here. Given the direction batting is taking in modern cricket, this record too will one day fall to someone new—and that competition is now the centre of everyone's interest.

For now, the name in the record books is Brook's. As the owner of the fastest double century in ODI cricket, his innings will stand as the new target for the batters of the coming days.
