Two Easy-Bike Passengers Killed as Bus Hits Vehicle on Dhaka-Aricha Highway, Driver Seriously Injured

Two passengers of a battery-run easy bike were killed when a bus hit the vehicle at Barangail bus stand area of Shibalaya upazila in Manikganj on the Dhaka-Aricha highway. The easy bike driver was seriously injured in the incident.

The accident took place at around 10am on Thursday (22 October). Grief and concern spread in the area after the accident on the busy highway.

The deceased were identified as Yasin (22), son of Md Sahan, and Bablu (28), son of Mojahar, both from Mouhali village of Ghior upazila in Manikganj. Both were residents of the same village.

The name of the injured easy bike driver could not be known immediately. He was taken for treatment in a serious condition.

Police and local people said a bus of Selfie Paribahan was travelling from Paturia towards Dhaka. At the same time, the battery-run easy bike was carrying passengers from Mouhali in Ghior upazila towards Barangail Hat.

When the bus hit the easy bike at the Barangail bus stand area, one passenger died on the spot. The other passenger died after being taken to hospital.

Harun Or Rashid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barangail Highway Police Station, said the bus was seized after the accident.

The OC also said the driver of the killer bus and his helper fled after the accident. Law enforcement activities were said to be continuing to catch them.

Highway police said legal action in the incident is under process. The cause of the accident is being investigated.

The loss of life in a collision between a bus and a small vehicle on the highway has again raised questions among local people about road safety. A shadow of grief has fallen over the families of the two young men who died.
