Government Gazette Declares November 7 a General Holiday Every Year for 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day'
The government has issued a gazette notification declaring a general holiday every year on November 7 on the occasion of 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day'. The notification says the holiday has been declared in line with a decision of the cabinet meeting.
The notification was issued recently by the Rules-6 branch of the Ministry of Public Administration. It was signed by Deputy Secretary Waliul Daman.
According to the notification, a general holiday has been declared every year on November 7 for 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day' as per the cabinet's decision. In other words, this holiday is not only for this year — November 7 will be a government holiday every year.
The basis for this decision was laid earlier at the cabinet meeting on October 5. At that meeting, it was decided to include November 7 as a class-'Ka' day in the Cabinet Division's circular on the observance of national and international days.
As per the decision, the day will be observed as 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day'. After being added to the list of class-'Ka' days, the decision has now taken full shape through the general holiday notification.
A general holiday means government offices and courts will remain closed on that day. As a result, November 7 has been newly added to the holiday list of government employees. From now on, the day will also feature in holiday planning for the rest of the year.
The notification came at a time when government employees are enjoying five consecutive days of holiday for Sharadiya Durga Puja. That holiday, which began last Tuesday (October 20), will continue until next Saturday.
After the holiday ends, government office activities will resume as usual from next Sunday. Then, in November, November 7 will arrive as a new holiday — which from now on is a fixed annual holiday.
Various organisations and institutions hold programmes to observe the day. With the declaration of a government holiday, the opportunity has been created for the day to be observed with greater state importance from this year.
All in all, through the cabinet decision, inclusion in the list of class-'Ka' days and finally the general holiday notification, November 7 has now secured a permanent place in the country's annual holiday calendar.
