Tk 1.20 Crore Withdrawal Alleged Against Moulvibazar Hospital Chiefs as Sylhet Division Steps Up Puja Security

Staff Reporter • Reading time: 2 min

An allegation has been raised against the superintendent and the resident medical officer (RMO) of the 250-bed hospital in Moulvibazar over the withdrawal of Tk 1.20 crore. The claim, directed at the two top officials of one of the district's main public treatment centres, has sparked widespread discussion locally.

The allegation covers both the hospital's superintendent and its RMO. Withdrawals from a government hospital's funds are normally supposed to pass through set accounts and approval procedures, so examining how the money was taken out has become the central question for those concerned.

The 250-bed hospital is the main source of treatment for a large number of patients from Moulvibazar district and surrounding areas. Questions over the financial management of such an institution have also caused concern among patients and service seekers.

No detailed information is yet available about any investigation or formal step taken over the allegation. Local conscious citizens expect that a transparent inquiry will clarify the entire withdrawal process and that necessary action will be taken against anyone found responsible.

Meanwhile, the administration and law-enforcement agencies were active over puja security in two other districts of Sylhet Division. In Sunamganj, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Jahangir visited puja mandaps and instructed officials to strengthen security at the venues.

In Habiganj, BGB commander Tanzilur Rahman also visited puja mandaps. Inspections and surveillance of this kind are being carried out across the division's districts so that no untoward incident takes place during the festival days.

Amid this, a housewife has been reported missing in Habiganj after going down to bathe. According to locally received information, the woman did not return after entering the water to bathe, and residents are waiting for further information about the search and the details of the incident.

Altogether, discussion in Sylhet Division is now centred on two issues at once: the allegation of financial irregularity at a government hospital, and the administration's efforts to ensure festival security. The picture will become clearer once an official statement from the authorities on the hospital allegation is available.
