Durga Puja Security in Sunamganj Satisfactory, Says Sylhet Range DIG

Staff Reporter • Reading time: 2 min

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police for the Sylhet Range has described the security arrangements taken for Sharadiya Durga Puja in Sunamganj as satisfactory. He expressed the satisfaction after reviewing the security preparations made across the district for the festival.

Durga Puja is the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community. During this period, puja is held at numerous mandaps across Sunamganj and other districts of Sylhet Division, and every mandap draws crowds of devotees and visitors. The administration and law enforcement agencies work to a special security plan to keep that festive atmosphere peaceful.

The DIG's assessment indicates that measures including police patrols, surveillance and security posts at the mandaps are at a satisfactory level. That preparation has played a role in the festival proceeding so far without any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, the Labour Minister has called for the bonds of communal harmony to be strengthened further. During this festive Durga Puja period, he made the call emphasising the preservation of mutual harmony and goodwill among people of all faiths.

People of all religions in Bangladesh have traditionally celebrated festivals together. The presence of people of other faiths beside the Hindu community during Durga Puja, and the exchange of greetings, are an expression of that harmony, and the minister's call speaks of strengthening that very tradition.

Administration officials say security will remain equally strong through the remaining days of the puja. Coordination with mandap management committees and local public representatives will continue, and surveillance will stay in place until the festival ends.

Puja celebrants in Sunamganj have expressed satisfaction at being able to observe the festival in a peaceful environment, and a festive mood prevails at the mandaps amid the administration's active security presence.

Similar security arrangements have been taken for Durga Puja in the other districts of Sylhet Division as well, with the administration aiming to complete the festival peacefully across the division.

Extra caution is maintained on the final days of the puja, especially during idol immersion. The forces concerned are prepared to maintain security and order at river ghats and immersion sites.

The DIG's satisfaction and the minister's call for harmony both point to an atmosphere of peace and goodwill during this year's Durga Puja in Sylhet Division, and everyone concerned hopes the rest of the festival will pass in the same peace.
