Islami Bank customers call human chain in Chattogram over four demands ahead of PM's visit
Ahead of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to Chattogram, the Islami Bank Conscious Customers Rights Forum has called a peaceful human chain pressing a four-point demand.
According to the programme, the human chain is scheduled to be held on Tuesday (20 October) at 4pm in front of the Chattogram Press Club in the city.
The programme was announced in a message sent by the forum's member secretary, Imran Uddin.
The message demands, alongside protecting the interests of Islami Bank's three crore customers, a clear announcement from the prime minister on reinstating 10,000 dismissed bankers to their jobs.
It said the reinstatement of the dismissed bankers carries special importance among the four demands. The forum also expects an announcement of a specific timeline for when these bankers will be able to return to their workplaces.
Expressing trust and confidence in the prime minister, the message said the customers hope the prime minister will take positive steps regarding their demands.
In particular, they expect clear direction in the prime minister's speech on reinstating the dismissed bankers and ensuring their dignified return to their workplaces.
The forum also said it wants to welcome the prime minister to heroic Chattogram and raise its demands peacefully. Islami Bank customers and all concerned were urged to join the human chain.
Notably, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Chattogram around 6pm on Tuesday to exchange greetings with members of the Hindu community and visit puja mandaps on the occasion of Sharodiya Durga Puja. During the visit, he is expected to visit the puja mandap at J M Sen Hall in Rahmatganj and exchange greetings with the Hindu community.
After that, he is also scheduled to take part in an organisational meeting with leaders of Chattogram city, north and south district BNP. The meeting is expected to be held at a hotel in the city. Security arrangements have been strengthened across Chattogram city and district ahead of the prime minister's visit.
Meanwhile, member secretary Imran Uddin has urged everyone to be present at the Chattogram Press Club at 4pm on Tuesday to make the human chain a peaceful success.
