Door Opens Mid-Air, Indian Air Ambulance Makes Emergency Landing in Dhaka; Patient Dies after Being Taken to Hospital
An air ambulance has made an emergency landing at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after its door opened mid-air on the way from Agartala in India to Kolkata. Later, when the ailing woman aboard the aircraft was quickly taken to Kurmitola Hospital in the capital, doctors declared her dead.
Md Riaz Uddin, a senior officer of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, confirmed the matter, saying the incident took place at midday on Sunday. According to the information given by him, after the emergency situation arose, the aircraft was landed in Dhaka.
According to the air ambulance’s passenger list, the patient’s name was Anjana Bhowmik. She was an Indian citizen. She was being taken from Agartala to Kolkata in an ailing condition.
With the patient were physician Dr Firoz Khan, paramedic Azim Khan, and two companions, Santa Bhowmik and Deep Jyoti Mishra. The list mentions the nationality of all of them as Indian.
The air ambulance was operated by SKB Infracon Private Limited. The aircraft’s model was C90A and its registration number was VT-HYA. It had set off from Agartala for Kolkata.
The aircraft’s pilot in command was Captain Punya Anup and the assistant pilot was Captain Tanuj Sharma. Including the two pilots, there were a total of seven people on the aircraft.
It has been learned that after the door opened mid-air, the pilots decided on an emergency landing and the aircraft was landed at Shahjalal Airport. After that, the patient was quickly brought down and sent to hospital.
After being taken to Kurmitola Hospital, doctors declared Anjana Bhowmik dead. The death in this way of a patient while being transferred for treatment has made the incident more tragic still.
However, no detailed information was immediately available as to why the aircraft’s door had opened mid-air. Likewise, no details were immediately known about the cause of the woman’s death.
In transporting patients by air ambulance, every moment is important. Why a problem like the door opening occurred will remain an essential matter for those concerned to look into.
In this incident, the Dhaka airport authorities’ swift emergency landing arrangements and their initiative in sending the patient to hospital played an important role, although in the end the patient could not be saved.
If detailed information about the cause of the aircraft’s door opening becomes available in the next steps, the situation will become clearer. For now, this sudden incident and the patient’s death have remained the saddest outcome of this journey.
